Uganda has a population of around 46 million, roughly half of whom are under the age of 18. This makes it one of the youngest nations in the world. Around 72% of the Ugandan population works in agriculture, which contributes around 24% to the gross domestic product.   

Thanks to its warm climate and fertile soil, Uganda has excellent agricultural conditions. According to the UN FAO, the country could theoretically feed up to 200 million people.  

Around 80% of the country's land area is considered arable, but only around 35% is actually cultivated. Better access to modern agricultural technology could significantly increase productivity.  

 Agriculture has traditionally played a central role in the country. The most important staple foods include maize, manioc, matoke (plantains/bananas), legumes and sweet potatoes. Coffee, tea and cotton are also very important, as they are among Uganda's main export goods.  

In 2025, we opened the first machinery ring in Kitanulwa, approximately 50 km west of Kampala, thanks to private donations. The regional focus of the farmers there is on maize cultivation. To support local production, we were able to provide two machines: a maize husking machine and a mill. This gives farmers access to modern processing technology for the first time – an important step towards increasing added value and improving local food security.
